Oil glands, or sebaceous glands, reside in our skin and can produce pore-sized bumps on the face. Typically, the excess oil glands appear to group around hair follicles and create yellowish bumps on the skin. Sebaceous Hyperplasia can appear to look like acne. This is a minor skin condition but should be treated with care, precision, and the proper treatment.
Depending on the treatment area after your Bovie treatment at Images Med Spa Wilmette, your skin may appear to scab for a few days, but quickly diminishes, leaving smooth skin behind.
The treatment process
The step-by-step patient experience.
Sebaceous Hyperplasia is a common skin condition that produces visible small bumps under the skin. These bumps typically appear on the cheeks and forehead. This harmless condition usually effects adults, although other ages can experience it as well. Sebaceous hyperplasia is formed when sebum becomes suffocated under the skin. The trapped sebum bubbles and produces the yellow-ish bumps called sebaceous hyperplasia.
At Images, we use Bovie, a high-powered, hand-held device which essentially burns off sebaceous hyperplasia. The areas will dry enough to scab over and then eventually fall off, producing smooth, beautiful skin.
Before your treatment, we will examine your skin and walk you through the recommended treatment plan. Prior to the treatment, the area will be treated with a numbing cream to help ensure the treatment is comfortable.
Your skin will be cleaned and assessed to assure the injection is safely and properly inserted. Specific areas will be decided upon to insert the minuscule needle. This creates a tailored approach to defying your skin. Prior to insertion, a safe, topical anesthetic will be applied to create a comfortable and relaxing environment.
Uncovering Smooth Skin
Once the area is heated, some glands may transform into scabs due to heated energy. These scabs will fall away, unveiling smooth, rejuvenated skin.
