During the colder weather our skin begins to change  –  and these changes aren’t as pretty as the leaves changing colors.

The drop in temperatures and indoor dry heat will turn the dewy and glowy skin you worked so hard for this summer to dry and dull. But don’t be alarmed, you can still have beautiful skin in the winter too. Your skin just requires more TLC and we are here to help you achieve the best results year-round. Book your appointment at Images Med Spa to get your skin check for the colder months ahead.

Tip 1: Understand Your Skin Type

You can’t achieve the skin you’ve been dreaming of without first understanding your skin type. Two very common skin types are dry and oily skin. Once you know your specific skin type you will soon recognize how it adapts to different environments and seasonal changes.

OILY SKIN

If you have oily skin the first thing to pay attention to are the signs… which can be quite obvious! Oily skin produces more sebum and this will make it appear shiny or greasy. Oftentimes other signs of an oily skin type are enlarged pores and acne prone skin. If you’re constantly blotting at your T-zone area which includes your forehead, nose and chin you most likely will already have your answer.

DRY SKIN

If your skin appears dry it’s time to revive it. Dry skin is often the opposite of glowy because the moisture and dead skin may be covering up the top layer of the epidermis. Signs of dry skin to look out for are flaking, tight skin, rough texture and harsh lines. All of which can be horrible symptoms especially when the colder months are starting to roll in.

Tip 2: Get a Gentle Cleanser

The cleanser you are using in your skincare routine is vital especially when it comes to your skin type and the season. Let us break this down for you! During the summer the skin tends to lock in more moisture and builds up more oil. For those with an oily skin type you would want to be using a stronger cleanser. A cleanser that contains stronger ingredients will control and manage the oil build which will prevent the pores from becoming clogged. But the opposite is said about the winter. With the combination of the cold outdoors and dried out indoors this strips away the skin’s natural moisture. So continuing to use the same stronger cleanser you used in the summer would end up doing more damage to your skin. A gentle cleanser is highly recommended for the colder months. This will allow you to maintain a beautiful complexion without further irritating the skin.

WHAT OUR AESTHETICIANS WOULD RECOMMEND:

Epionces Gentle Foam Cleanser. We cannot get enough of this cleanser because of it’s amazing formula of ingredients. It provides a perfect deep cleanse without leaving the skin tight or dry. Epionce is known for its special approach and containing a blend of key botanical ingredients. Which means you are only getting the purest of ingredients. Pure ingredients also won’t strip the skin of its natural protective oils.

Tip 3: Don’t Be Afraid to Exfoliate

Did you know that exfoliating your skin in the fall and winter can replenish it? The skin cells die out easily during the colder months due to the cold air and indoor heat. To replenish new skin cells and remove dead ones your answer is exfoliate! Depending on the condition of your skin our Aesthetician would recommend starting with exfoliating 1-2 times a week to see improvements. This simple and effective method will leave you with softer and smoother skin. It will also allow for the rest of your skincare products to penetrate the skin at a deeper level. If your skin is blocked from dead skin cells your products can be less effective.

TYPES OF EXFOLIATING METHODS

There are two different methods to exfoliate. You can use our favorite method which is applying your cleanser on your skin and massaging it into your skin with a circular motion. Then rinsing and completing the rest of your skincare routine. The other exfoliating method is the chemical exfoliant. You will start by washing your skin as usual with your cleanser. Then using pre-moistened cloth or pad then applying this in all your concerned areas such as the face and neck. Both methods are effective but we recommend you consult with your Aesthetician prior to incorporating in your skincare routine.

Tip 4: Moisturize & Hydrate

The most important tip of them all especially in the colder months is to keep the skin hydrated and moisturized. If you can lock in as much moisture into the skin as possible you will maintain that glow you had during the summer.

TYPES OF MOISTURIZERS

The two most common moisturizers in a skincare routine are either a cream or a lotion. Lotions for most skin types are only used during the summer months. But if you do find that you have oily skin you will want to consult with your Aesthetician before switching to a cream in the winter. With that being said since the skin will have a harder time to lock in moisture you will want to use something heavier such as a cream. When applied during your nightly routine this will allow the skin to heal itself and stay hydrated while you are asleep. Facial creams contain a heavier consistency and this will create a barrier for the skin to fight off dull or dried out skin caused in the winter.

WHAT OUR AESTHETICIANS WOULD RECOMMEND:

Our go-to facial cream is Neocutis Bio Cream. Neocutis is a highly favored brand among dermatologists, you can find it featured in many magazines. This product does not only provide the right amount of moisture and hydration to the skin but it also focuses on fighting signs of aging. It smoothes down the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. It is highly recommended to use post skin treatments for recovery.
