Traverse City
There are many cities to visit in Michigan but one that will keep you busy with activities is Traverse City. One thing you will have to see for your own eyes is the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore. Good Morning America named this the most beautiful places in America. For a short weekend this will have to be a sight to fit into the itinerary. Take the Pierce Scenic drive up to this lookout that views 400 ft above the striking Lake Michigan. If you want to make a whole day trip out of it you can take a tour around the Sleep Bear Dune or ride bikes and of course hike! A weekend getaway always has to involve a little drinking. Traverse City has 40 different wineries and many breweries. Michigan is the city for wine tasting there is a range of red and crisp white wines. Traverse city is one of the top five foodies places in America. So the dining will not disappoint! If you’re looking for that outdoor time then Traverse City is the place to visit!
Starved Rock
We don’t know about you but when it comes to planning a trip it takes time… like lots of time. Figuring out where you want to go, what you want to do, and when you want to go. You can make it easy though. We always forget about the local hot spots to visit that are just miles away. A nice and easy trip to plan is Starve Rock in Utica Illinois. If you need a calm setting to ease your mind Starve Rock will bring you all the trails for hiking. Along with that the trails lookout on the Illinois River and canyons. Starve Rock also brings you history as well. You can learn more about Ottawa and Potawatomi tribes that surrounded the area. If you are working on your fitness some of Starve Rock has trails that are rated difficult so make sure you bring the right shoes!
Lake Geneva
If you’re looking to connect with nature, view beautiful art, or shop til you drop then Lake Geneva is your spot. This is the perfect place for a girls trip or a family getaway for any ages. Lake Geneva has beautiful beaches and fun lake activities. Fontana Beach is a popular spot with dining spots and boating activities. I mean who doesn’t love the beach? The Black Point Estate and Gardens is such a vibrant spot to visit with friends and family. If you’re looking to see some Art you can of course visit Geneva Lake Arts Foundation – Gallery 223 this will be a great place to check off your list. But wait… we did not get to the shopping part of Lake Geneva. Book it now with all you girl friends! The fan favorite shopping spots are Galerie Matisse, Lake Geneva Antique Mall, and Delaney Street Mercantile. Lake Geneva will have one-off kind shops and stores. Expand your wardrobe while enjoying time with all your friends!
Galena
The little town Galena is a fun getaway destination for you and your spouse or for the whole family. The charming town has rolling hills, history, and trails to explore. In the summer you can kayak or paddleboard down Galena river. We love a little exercise and touring the town on bikes. Galena is known as a popular golf destination. So if you’re an experienced golfer or a newbie this is a fun activity to do with your friends and family. Two historic spots that you won’t want to miss is, Ulysses S. Grant home and the Belvedere Mansion and garden!
Door County
If you’re looking for a simple yet relaxing getaway with the family Door County is a great option! Summertime is all about spending quality in the outdoors. Door County has many trails and parks to hike or ride bikes at. Besides the typical outdoor activities bring your golf clubs and swim goggles because you have to get in a round of 9 holes or beautiful lakes for some water activities. A day at the beach or on the boat is an exciting day adventure for the whole family. We didn’t forget about your night activities… The kids will love the ice cream shops, mini-golfing, or drive in theater. Door County is one of our absolute favorite vacation spots and a must for the whole family.
