HOW CAN CHEMICAL PEELS HELP TREAT CYSTIC ACNE?
Chemical Peels can improve skin texture and tone by stimulating the skin cell turnover process. By shedding these old skin cells you’re replacing them with new healthy ones. The combination of acids in a peel also helps to kill off the bacteria that causes acne. This can help heal acne as well as prevent future breakouts.
CAN CHEMICAL PEELS TREAT ACNE SCARRING?
The best part about Chemical Peels is that they can directly improve acne and acne scarring. The process of removing the top layer of skin with a specialized chemical solution kills off built up bacteria in the pores. Once the old layer of skin peels off, healthier skin cells replace it. This will result in clearer skin and lightened acne scars.
DO CHEMICAL PEELS HURT?
A Chemical Peel is one of the quickest treatments you can receive. We call it the “lunch break” treatment because you can be in and out in 30 minutes or less. Some experience a slight stinging sensation during the treatment but it only lasts for a few minutes. Our aestheticians typically fan your skin after to help minimize any discomfort.
WHAT IS THE DOWNTIME FOR CHEMICAL PEELS?
Depending on the strength of the chemical peel, patients will usually start peeling within 48 hours and continue for the next 7-10 days. Below is a breakdown of what you can expect after a treatment:
- First few hours: flushed skin, tingling, mild sunburn sensation
- First few days: Redness, dryness, tightness and some irritation can occur
- Day 2 and 3: the skin will begin to flake and peel. The degree of peeling depends on the person and the type of peel (don’t touch or help with the peeling process)
- Day 3 and 4: The skin may appear darker (this is normal)
- Day 5 and 6: The skin will begin to appear brighter and clearer
WHEN IS THE BEST TIME TO GET A CHEMICAL PEEL?
The great thing about a Chemical Peel treatment is you can get one any time of the year. Our aestheticians recommend getting one at least every quarter and alternating them with Hydrafacials.
HOW MANY CHEMICALS PEEL DO I NEED?
It’s common for patients to receive a series of 4 to 6 peels spaced a few weeks apart, but everyone’s journey is different. You may be recommended to receive a stronger peel based on your unique skin concerns and goals. Discuss with your provider to see if a light, medium, or deep peel would be best for your skin!
