WHAT IS A PHOTOFACIAL?

It’s time to reset your skin and give it the ultimate rejuvenation! The Photofacial combines light and heat to destroy unwanted, damaged skin cells. This repairs and improves aging skin, broken capillaries, rosacea, large pores, texture, and sun damage. New and healthy skin cells will rejuvenate, giving your skin a more even tone, boosting collagen, and giving you a glow that’s been missing.

IS A PHOTOFACIAL GOOD FOR ROSACEA?

Don’t give up on your rosacea just yet. There are ways to control it and lessen the symptoms with the right medical-grade products and a recommended amount of Photofacial treatments. This treatment works by repairing those broken blood vessels with the broadband light by raising the skin cells temperatures. This will even out your skin tone for a clearer complexion.

CAN A PHOTOFACIAL REDUCE REDNESS?

Did you know facial redness is one of the most common skin concerns? You’re not alone and it’s time we treat it. Photofacials are a great option to target facial redness or rosacea. This redness appears on the skin when blood vessels become damaged. The great part about the Photofacial is that the intense pulsed light  is attracted to brown and red pigment. The light increases the healing process by raising skin cell temperatures and repairing these broken blood vessels.

DO PHOTOFACIALS HURT?

Our number one goal at Images is to guide you along your skin journey, while feeling comfortable and at ease. The best way to describe how a Photofacial treatment feels is by comparing it to a sunburn plus a light snapping sensation on the skin. It’s one of our quicker treatments which makes it more tolerable and so worth it. To ease any discomfort we have stress balls, fans, and of course a hand to hold.

HOW MANY PHOTOFACIALS SESSIONS DO I NEED?

The number of Photofacials you need to treat either pigmentation or redness/rosacea vary by person. Even once the damage is reversed, you will still need to keep up with the maintenance as your skin continues to age and the more time you spend in the sun. We recommend patients receive at least 3 – 4 sessions every 4 – 6 weeks for best results but below is a suggestion according to your lifestyle:

  • For my Chicagoans, we recommend getting Photofacials every season (Summer, Spring, Winter, Fall)
  • For my wanderlusts, we recommend getting treated during the Winter & fall months to clean up the damage from the summer.
  • For my snowbirds (or If you live in warm states like California & Florida), you would be treated YEAR-ROUND because you’ll always want to treat the sun damage

DID YOU KNOW THE PHOTOFACIAL CAN TREAT SUN DAMAGE?

Photofacials are the best treatment to target sun damage and brown spots. The treatment combines light and heat together to absorb into skin and destroy those damaged skin cells and replace them with a healthy and clearer version. Your skin will be left with a brighter and more even complexion.

WHO IS MORE PRONE TO BROWN SPOTS AND SUN DAMAGE?

Sunspots are made of melanin. Melanin provides pigmentation to your skin, eyes and hair. It also absorbs harmful UV rays and protects your cells from sun damage. When the skin is exposed to the sun your body releases the melanin in order to protect the skin, creating a tan. But overtime these cells become damaged and form spots of pigmentation in the weakened areas. This is why our skin shows “brown spots.”

We all have the same number of melanocytes or cells that create pigmentation but some skin types are more reactive than others.

  • African american / hispanic / asians = melanocytes are more reactive
  • Caucasisans = melanocytes not as reactive

HOW IS THE PHOTOFACIAL PREVENTATIVE?

Sun damage is often a result of too much sun exposure but it can also be genetic. Did you know that sun damage begins as early as birth to 18 years old? While it often doesn’t show up until later on  it can begin to show on the skin starting around your late 20s and increases with age. Preventative Photofacials and wearing daily SPF 30+ helps prevent sun damage and assists in lessening years of sun damage accumulation.

WHEN IS THE BEST TIME TO GET A PHOTOFACIAL?

The best time to receive a Photofacial is when you don’t have an active tan however with the right sun protection and precautions, you can often be treated all year around. While it’s important to avoid sunburnt or tan skin, keeping up with your treatments is ideal to maintain your results. You wouldn’t want to treat the skin all winter long with Photofacials only to ruin your results and cause new damage to the skin during the summer months.
